Where do you deliver?
Our service area currently covers Davidson and Williamson Counties. Please contact Smile, Mommy! Diaper Service if you live outside our service area. We may be able to offer an alternative drop off site.

When is my delivery/pick up?
Your delivery day will be a weekday and depends on your location. When you sign up for service, a day will be assigned.

Do I need to be home for the deliveries?
No, you do not need to be home. Just leave the bag of dirty diapers outside on delivery day and we will take care of the rest. If you are home, we would be happy to give tips or help problem-solve.

What if I missed my pick up?
You have 2 choices:

1. You can hold onto the diapers until the following week. You will not be charged unless there are damaged diapers. In that case, you will be charged $3 for each damaged diaper.

2. You can call our office for a special pickup. You will be charged $10 for this extra service.

How do I pay for my service?
Your first payment is due upon delivery of your starter package. This payment will include the $40 start up fee and your first four weeks of diaper service fees.

You will receive an invoice every 4 weeks via email. We accept: check, Visa and MasterCard.  Automatic payment with a credit card is available.

You may pay online using the Online Bill Pay, or attach a check to your delivery tag, or mail your payment to:

Are there discounts for twins or having another child in diapers?
Yes!  You receive 10% off weekly rates.

How many diapers should I order per week?
Typically, you would need 80 for newborns, 60 for infants, and 50 for toddlers.

Can I get a refund for diapers I did not use?
You are charged for the full amount ordered regardless of usage.  Essentially is it like renting a movie, you pay for the movie even if you do not watch it.

If you find you are regularly using fewer diapers, contact us and we can drop the number of diapers delivered as well as decrease your weekly fee for future weeks.

Clean diapers should only be turned in after contacting us and discussing a vacation hold, size change, number drop, or termination of service.

How do I change the number of diapers needed?
Contact us. Numbers may be increased or decreased, as your needs change.

What size diapers should I order for my baby?
Please refer to these weight recommendations:
Preemie    2-7 lbs
Newborn   6-16 lbs
Infant      16-31 lbs
Large       32-45 lbs

What do I need to get started?
Contact our office by completing this form.

Do I need to rinse, dunk, soak or scrape the diapers?
No rinsing, dunking, soaking, or scraping is required.

Toss dirty diapers in the pail.  (Shake any solid poop into the toilet.  If poop is not formed, there is no need to shake)

Yes!  It really is that simple.

I'm about to run out of diapers, what do I do?
Please do not wash the diapers yourself! It's good to have some back-up diapers on hand just in case this happens. If you need more cloth prefolds, please contact us and we will deliver more diapers as soon as we can. Unfortunately we have to charge $10 for a special delivery.

Can I wash the diapers myself?
Please NEVER wash the diapers yourself. Home laundering frequently results in discoloration, permanent staining, chlorine damage, etc., and you will be charged for the damages.

What is your washing process?
Our wash process takes about an hour and 15 minutes to complete and has 12 different steps and uses water temperatures high enough to sanitize diapers. We start by flushing any matter out 3 times.

Then we add soap made by Eco-Lab which is very free-rinsing and leaves no residual traces in the final product. Next comes a non-bleach agent to sanitize and remove stains from the diapers. We are very careful to use the minimum amount necessary.

Once the diapers have been dechlorinated, we balance the pH of the diapers to insure that the diapers match your baby's skin. This reduces the occurrence of diaper rash, in most cases to zero! To achieve this we use a "sour" which is a citrus acid solution calibrated to bring the diapers into a neutral pH. Again this solution is very safe and environmentally friendly.

Are there diaper rash/skin care products that I should not use?
Yes, please do not use Desitin or products containing fish oil. It can permanently stain and ruin the diapers.  You will be charged $3 for each ruined diaper.

I'm expecting a new baby, when should I contact you to start service?
You can contact us at any time to set up a pre-arrival delivery.  We will ask your due/arrival date and deliver your start up kit and first order of diapers a couple of weeks before this date.  If your new bundle of joy arrives before the diapers have been delivered, just contact us and we will deliver your diapers the next business day!

Make sure you sign up for our Registry.

How do I sign up for a registry, or buy a gift for someone?
Contact us! We can add the start-up fee and weekly diaper service to your baby registry. We also sell gift certificates. Click here to begin.

How do I redeem my gift certificate?
If you have been given a gift certificate for Smile, Mommy! Diaper Service, you may use it any time. Contact us and we will apply it toward your service charges.

Is there a minimum time commitment to begin service?
We require a 4 week minimum of service to begin, which is non-refundable.

When/How do I get the bill for using Smile, Mommy! Diaper Service?
Every 4 weeks you will receive an invoice for service.

In order to reduce paper waste, you will be emailed the invoice. You will have the option to receive a paper invoice at the time of delivery when you set up service. If you would like to change the way you receive your invoices, please call our office.

I'm going on vacation, how can I put a hold on my service?
Contact us a week prior to your vacation to make hold arrangements. We will pick up all your diapers but not drop off clean ones until you resume service. You will be charged a $10 fee for each week you are on hold.

Do you deliver on holidays?
We will always strive for consistency but if necessary, will send a notice of any revised delivery schedule at least a week prior to any major holiday.

How do I fold and put on a cloth diaper?
Fold the diaper in thirds with the extra absorbent panel in the center, lay it on the diaper cover and then fasten the cover. So easy! Look at these pictures for different variations.  Make sure your cover is snug fitting and there are no gaps around the legs. You also can use a Snappi®.

Do I have to use pins?
No, you can secure the diaper onto your baby with a diaper cover. You can also use a Snappi® to help prevent blowouts.

What is a Snappi?®
A Snappi?® is safe, easy to use safety pin replacement. The T-shaped fastener is made from a stretchable non-toxic material.  The Snappi® has grips on each end that hook into the cloth diaper fabric to ensure a snug-fitting diaper with enough natural movement for the baby.

How should I pack my diaper bag?
We recommend packing a diaper cover, 2-3 cloth pre-folds, 4-5 flannel wipes, and a small nylon washable bag for packing soiled nappies away!

How do cloth diapers compare to disposable environmentally?
Disposables:
It takes 440 to 880 pounds of wood pulp and 286 pounds of plastic (including packaging) per year to supply one baby with disposable diapers, according to Environment Canada. Dioxin, a chemical on the EPA's list of most toxic cancer-linked chemicals, is a by-product of this manufacturing process.

Disposables also pose risks during use. The wood pulp, plastic, sodium polyacrylate (which turns urine into gel), dyes, and fragrances in continual contact with a baby's skin worry some of those who study infertility and hormone-mimicking chemicals. Several components of disposables (toluene, xylene, ethyl-benzene, styrene, and isopropylbenzene), according to a report in the October 1999 issue of the Archives of Environmental Health, are bronchial irritants associated with asthma.

Each year, 18 billion disposable diapers burden US landfills, combining plastic, wood pulp, fecal matter and urine, with bio-hazards, including live vaccines from immunizations. The bundled fecal matter requires 200-500 years to decompose and can contaminate ground water. In contrast, waste water from washing diapers is treated, at least in most municipalities.

Cloth:
It takes less than 22 pounds of cotton to supply one baby with reusable cotton diapers for two years. A study by the British Landbank Consultancy determined that, factoring in cotton growing, the manufacture and use of disposable diapers requires twice the water use and three times the energy of cloth diapers. (See www.realnappycompany.com/NappyFacts.htm.)

Finally, Jane McConnell in Mothering Magazine in June 1998 notes that babies in cloth diapers are changed more frequently, a factor that reduces diaper rash. As a bonus, she says that a child in cloth diapers actually knows when he or she is wet, and hence, is toilet trained earlier.

Cotton diapers are made of natural materials and so are biodegrade.
